Forestry Mulching in Warren, OH

Brush Clearing in Warren Without the Burn Pile

Flat, wet and grown shut. That describes a lot of back ground around Warren, where a hay field or pasture that sat idle is now a thicket of autumn olive, multiflora rose and young maple. A brush hog cannot take growth like that. A forestry mulcher can. It cuts brush and small trees in place and leaves them as a mat of shredded wood, in one pass, with one machine. Nothing is piled, burned or trucked away.

Warren is the Trumbull County seat, and Trumbull County is home for Logan Earthworks. We are based in Farmdale, so jobs in Warren, Howland, Champion and Leavittsburg are close-to-home work for us. The business is owner-operated. Jeff is the one who walks your ground, tells you plainly what mulching can and cannot do there, and gives you a free estimate. Call (330) 625-5754 to set a time.

Work around here falls into a few groups: old fields the owner wants back, fence rows and property lines swallowed by brush, wooded lots being readied for a house or pole barn, and hunting ground that needs lanes and trails. Our main forestry mulching page explains the machine and the method. Below is what matters on the ground here in particular.

Mulching Conditions In and Around Warren

Flat till that stays wet half the year

The ground around Warren is mostly flat glacial till, and it holds water. The Trumbull soil series is rated poorly drained by the USDA, with the water table at or within inches of the surface from November to May in most years. On ground like that, the calendar matters more than the brush does. We aim for a dry spell from midsummer into fall, or for frozen ground in winter. A tracked mulcher floats better than a wheeled tractor, but we would sooner wait a week than leave ruts you have to fix.

Old fields and fence rows outside the city

Leave the city toward Champion, Bazetta, Howland, Lordstown or Braceville and you are in township country, with farm fields, woodlots and long fence rows. Fields that stop getting mowed fill in from the edges. Fence rows turn into hedgerows of hawthorn, wild cherry, grapevine and rose that swallow the wire. The mulcher takes a fence row back to a clean strip you can walk, mow or fence again. If old wire is still in there, tell us. Wire wrapped around a mulching head stops the job, so it has to be pulled or flagged first.

City lots and land bank lots

Inside Warren the usual job is smaller: the back third of a deep lot, or an empty lot next door that grew up after a house came down. The Trumbull County Land Bank sells vacant lots, and a parcel like that often needs the brush knocked down before anything else can happen. Mulching fits tight spots because nothing has to be dragged out to the street. Low ground along the Mahoning River and its feeder creeks may have limits on clearing near the water, so ask the city or the county Soil and Water Conservation District first.

What does forestry mulching cost per acre near Warren, Ohio?

There is no honest flat rate, so Jeff prices your ground after he walks it. An open field of waist-high rose is a different job from the same acreage in thick saplings on wet ground. Density, tree size, how soft the ground is, access and how finished you want it all move the price. See our guide to what moves forestry mulching cost per acre, then call for a free estimate on your ground.

How long does it take to forestry mulch one acre in Warren?

An acre of light brush on firm, flat ground can be done in a few hours. An acre of dense saplings laced with grapevine can take a full day or more, and soft ground slows everything down. Most ground near Warren lands in between. Ask about timing when Jeff looks at how thick the growth is and how the ground is holding up.

Is forestry mulching worth it for an old field in Trumbull County?

For brush and small trees, usually yes. You get the field back in one pass, the soil stays covered, and there is nothing to burn or haul. Know the limits, though. Stumps and roots stay in the ground. Autumn olive and rose resprout, so plan to mow the field once or twice a season afterward. If you want it plowed and planted right away, it needs more work than mulching alone.

When is the best time for forestry mulching in Warren, Ohio?

On the wet clay common here, late summer through fall is the most dependable stretch, because the ground has had time to dry. Winter works well when the ground is frozen hard, and the leaves are off so we can see everything. Early spring is the hard season. Our Warren land clearing and excavation page covers other work that can be lined up for the same trip.
