Clearing, Mulching & Dirt Work in Girard
Between the Mahoning River and the Liberty Township line, Girard packs a lot of different ground into a small city. There are older lots down near the river, ground that climbs away from it, and wooded parcels at the edges that back up to township land. Brush and trees fill in anything left alone. Logan Earthworks clears it, digs and grades for what you plan to do next, and cleans up after. We are based in Trumbull County, so this is close to home.
Logan Earthworks is owner-operated, and Jeff is the one you call. For brush, briars and small trees we bring a tracked forestry mulcher. For stumps, big trees and digging we bring CAT excavators, with a dozer and a compact track loader for grade. Whether it is one overgrown lot or a few acres off State Route 193 in Liberty, we look at it first and tell you plainly what it needs. The rest of the county is covered on our Trumbull County land clearing page.
Forestry mulching in Girard and Liberty
Much of the brush here is the same few plants: honeysuckle, multiflora rose, autumn olive and grapevine, with saplings coming up through them. The mulcher grinds all of it where it stands and leaves a mat of mulch that holds the soil, which matters on a slope. Nothing gets hauled down a city street. Inside Girard, a burn pile is not a real choice anyway. Ohio EPA's open burning rule treats a city and a buffer beyond its limits as a restricted area, and land clearing waste is not on the allowed list. See forestry mulching.
Lots on a slope
Girard ground that falls toward the river sheds water fast, and once the brush is off it can wash. On sloped lots we clear in a way that leaves roots and mulch holding the soil wherever possible, then grade so runoff has a path: a swale across the top, a stable outlet at the bottom. A pad for a garage or house is cut into the hill with fall on every side. If a gravel drive climbs the grade, it gets a crown and a way to turn water off before it cuts a channel. More on grading and land leveling.
Ponds, dams and the Girard Lakes lesson
The Girard Lakes and their dams are a local reminder of how seriously Ohio takes dams. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources runs the state dam safety program, and it has a say in how a dam is built, kept up or taken out. A farm pond is a far smaller thing, but the point carries. If your pond needs an embankment or sits on a stream, ask ODNR and Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation District before anyone digs. Pond digging and bank shaping are part of our excavation work. Start with our guide on pond permits and siting in Ohio.

Who does forestry mulching near Girard, Ohio?
Logan Earthworks does. We are an owner-operated company based in Trumbull County, and Girard, Liberty Township and McDonald are close to home. Our tracked forestry mulcher clears brush, vines and small trees and leaves the mulch on the ground, so there is no hauling or burning. Call (330) 625-5754 or send the form, and Jeff will look at the property and give you a free estimate.
Can you clear a steep wooded lot in Girard?
Often, yes. Tracked machines hold a slope better than wheeled ones, but every hill has a limit, and wet ground lowers it. We walk the lot, check the footing and decide what can be mulched from the machine and what has to be reached with an excavator from firmer ground. If part of it is too steep for a machine, we talk through other ways to reach it before we start.
Do I need permission to dig a pond in Liberty Township near Girard?
Ask before you dig. Whether a permit or review applies depends on the size of the pond, whether it has a dam, and whether a stream or wetland is involved. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources deals with dams, and Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation District can help with siting. Township zoning may have setback rules. We handle the digging and bank shaping once you have your answers.
