Warren is the county seat of Trumbull County, and Trumbull County is where Logan Earthworks is based. This is home ground for us, not a place we pass through. If you landed here looking for Warren County, that is a different place in southwest Ohio. The city spreads across the east side of Warren Township and into Howland, with Champion to the north, Leavittsburg to the west and Lordstown to the south. That gives two kinds of work. In town it is older lots, overgrown back lines and tight access. Out in the townships it is wooded acreage, fence rows and long drives. Inside the city and the mile around it
Under Ohio EPA's open burning rule, a city of ten thousand people or more carries a restricted zone that reaches one mile past its boundary. Warren is well over that size, so the zone takes in the city and a ring of the townships beside it. Burning land clearing waste is not among the fires the rule allows in a restricted area. Level ground that holds water
This is river valley and glacial till plain: close to level, silty on top, tight underneath. Rain and snowmelt have nowhere to go fast, so low yards and building sites stay soft well into spring. Clearing is only step one on ground like that. We strip the topsoil, cut the grade so water falls away from where the building or drive will sit, and shape swales or set drain pipe to carry it off. Near the Mahoning River, ask the city or county about floodplain limits before you plan a pad. Ohio law also requires notice to OHIO811 before any digging.

Before a new drive or culvert goes in, find out whose road you front. The Trumbull County Engineer's office handles permits for work in the right-of-way of county roads, so ask there about a driveway or culvert. ODOT says driveway access inside its right-of-way requires a permit, and several state routes run through Warren. City streets and township roads have their own offices.
