Land Clearing & Forestry Mulching in Columbiana County, OH
Columbiana County is two kinds of ground in one county. Level farm fields around Salem. Steep wooded hills toward the Ohio River. Clearing each one takes a different plan, and we will tell you plainly which one your land needs.
Land Clearing, Mulching & Excavation in Columbiana County
We work in Columbiana County. It lies two counties south of our base in Farmdale and it is inside our service area, including Salem, Columbiana, Leetonia and Lisbon. The county is mostly rural and counts as part of Appalachian Ohio. The usual jobs here are pasture that has gone to brush, hillsides covered in grapevine and autumn olive, house sites on wooded ground, and fence lines nobody has seen in years.
We bring a tracked forestry mulcher for the brush and small trees. It grinds them in place and leaves the mulch on the soil, with no piles and no burning. For stumps, big trees, building pads and driveways we bring excavators and a dozer. Start with our land clearing page for how the work goes, see what we do in Salem, or read forestry mulching vs bulldozing if you are deciding between the two.
Where the glacier stopped
The county's own history page says the glacial boundary runs through the middle of Columbiana County from east to west and touches Lisbon. North of that line the ice left smoother land and deeper soil, and it is good farm ground. South of it the land was never flattened. It is hilly, with shale, sandstone and limestone close under the surface. On the north side we watch for wet clay. On the south side we watch for rock, slope and thin topsoil that will wash if it is stripped.
Steep ground and the creek valleys
Little Beaver Creek drains much of the county to the Ohio River just east of East Liverpool. It is both an Ohio wild and scenic river and a national scenic river, and Beaver Creek State Park and State Forest sit along it. Yellow Creek State Forest is in the south. On hillsides in these valleys, pulling every stump with a dozer is asking for erosion. Mulching keeps the root mat and covers the soil. We also plan how to get the machine up and down a slope before we unload.
Pasture, orchard ground and old fields
This has been farm country for a long time. The county was a leading wheat and wool producer in the 1800s and became known for apples after big orchards went in around Elkrun Township. Plenty of that ground is now part woods. If you are taking a field back for hay, cattle or horses, we mulch the brush, leave shade trees where you want them and clear the fence line so new wire can go up. The Columbiana Soil & Water Conservation District can help with pasture, drainage and pond questions once the ground is open.

Do you do land clearing in Columbiana County, Ohio?
Yes. We work in Columbiana County, including Salem, Columbiana, Leetonia and Lisbon. We clear lots, mulch overgrown pasture and hillsides, cut fence lines and dig out stumps for building sites. Call (330) 625-5754, tell us where the property is and what is on it, and Jeff will set up a free estimate.
Can a forestry mulcher work on the steep hills in southern Columbiana County?
On many of them, yes. A tracked mulcher handles slopes a wheeled tractor cannot. There is a limit, and it depends on the grade, the footing and how wet the ground is. Jeff looks at every hillside before he prices it. Where a slope is too steep for the machine, he will talk through other ways to do it.
Is forestry mulching or bulldozing better for old pasture in Columbiana County?
For taking pasture back, mulching is usually the right tool. It leaves the topsoil and grass roots alone and there are no brush piles or bare dirt. A dozer makes sense when you need stumps out and the ground regraded, such as for a building or a pond. We run both and will tell you which fits.
How much does it cost to clear a hillside lot in Columbiana County?
Slope adds time, so a hillside costs more than the same growth on level ground. Rock, access for the trailer, the size of the trees and whether stumps come out all move the number. No two lots here are alike. Jeff will walk yours and give you a free estimate.
