Clearing, Mulching & Dirt Work in Bristolville

At the crossing of State Routes 45 and 88 there is a town green with a Civil War monument on it. That is Bristolville, the center of Bristol Township in the northwest part of Trumbull County. Around 2,700 people live in the whole township. It was founded in 1807 and named for Bristol, Connecticut, and it is still mostly what the first settlers made it: fields, pasture, woodlots and farmsteads on straight township roads.

Logan Earthworks is based in Farmdale, across the north end of the county, and this is country we know. The work in Bristolville is rural work. Taking a pasture back from brush. Cleaning out a fence row so new wire can go up. Opening lanes and shooting lanes on hunting ground. Digging a pond. Building a farm lane that holds up to a loaded wagon. Jeff will walk the ground with you before he gives you a price.

Pasture and fence rows

Leave a field alone around Bristolville for a few seasons and you get multiflora rose, autumn olive, hawthorn and dogwood, then saplings. A tractor mower will not touch most of it. A forestry mulcher will. It cuts each stem at the ground and grinds it, and the mulch stays on the soil while the grass fills back in. We clear fence rows the same way, down to the line, and leave the good trees. Our fence line clearing page has more. All of it is done without a burn pile.

Wet woods toward the Grand River

The Grand River runs through the west side of the county, and the upper river is known for its swamp forest of elm, ash, maple and pin oak. Low woods around Bristolville look much the same. Much of it suits hunting. We cut trails, shooting lanes and food plot openings with the mulcher and leave the mast trees standing. Timing matters in wet woods. We work it when it is dry or frozen so the trails we leave are trails and not ruts. See hunting land and trails.

Ponds, lanes and farm building sites

Farms around Bristolville need dirt work too. We dig ponds and shape the banks, build and regrade gravel farm lanes, set culverts where a lane crosses a ditch, and level pads for machine sheds and barns. Clay subsoil in this part of Trumbull County is good for holding a pond and hard on a lane, so lanes get a crown and solid base stone. For pond siting and drainage questions, the Trumbull Soil & Water Conservation District works with landowners. Our county page lists what else to check.

Questions

Bristolville Questions

More answers on our FAQ page and in the guides.

Do you do forestry mulching near Bristolville, Ohio?

Yes. Bristolville and Bristol Township are home ground for us. We mulch overgrown pasture, fence rows, field edges, trails and hunting ground, and we leave the trees you want. Call (330) 625-5754. Jeff will come out, walk it with you and give you a free estimate.

Can you turn overgrown brush back into pasture in Bristol Township?

Yes. The mulcher takes the brush and saplings down to ground level and leaves the topsoil and grass roots. Most fields green up again once the light gets in. Rose and olive will try to sprout back, so plan to mow or graze it the first couple of seasons. Thinking about seeding it? Bring it up when Jeff walks the field.

Can you build a gravel farm lane or dig a pond in Bristolville?

Yes to both. We build farm lanes with a proper base and crown and set culverts at ditch crossings. We dig ponds and shape the banks with excavators and a dozer. For a pond, check with Trumbull Soil & Water and Ohio DNR about dam rules before work starts.
