Working in Middlefield

Clearing, Mulching & Dirt Work in Middlefield

Middlefield is the center of one of the largest Amish settlements in the world, and the land shows it: small farms, pasture and wood lots, some of it still worked with horses. The village itself is a manufacturing town that serves Huntsburg, Parkman and Middlefield townships. Both sides need dirt work. Logan Earthworks is based to the east, in Trumbull County, so this edge of Geauga County is close to home for us.

State Route 87 runs through the village and on east to Mesopotamia in Trumbull County, with Route 608 crossing in town and Route 528 just past it. Jeff is the owner, and he is the one you talk to. We run a tracked forestry mulcher, CAT excavators, a dozer and a compact track loader. We are glad to walk a property with you and talk through what you want before any number is given. Farm lanes, fence rows and pasture

On a working farm, brush costs you ground. A fence row that has grown out into the field, a pasture corner lost to multiflora rose, a lane closed in by branches: a forestry mulcher takes care of each one and leaves mulch, not piles. We also rebuild farm lanes with base stone, a crown and culverts where water crosses, and we dig and shape farm ponds. Tell us about livestock, crops and timing when we look at the job. See fence line and property line clearing.

Keep the maples, clear what is under them

Geauga County is known for maple syrup, and plenty of wood lots around Middlefield are worth more standing than cleared. Forestry mulching does not have to mean taking everything. The machine works between the trees you mark to keep, grinding honeysuckle, buckthorn, grapevine and junk saplings and leaving the maples and other good timber alone. You get a wood lot you can walk and work in, and the mulch protects the soil. If you have bigger plans for the wood lot, tell us about them when we walk it. See invasive brush removal.

Shops, plants and commercial sites

The village is known as Geauga County's industrial center, so commercial sites matter in Middlefield: an addition, a new shop, a storage yard, more parking. We clear the ground, strip topsoil, cut and fill to the plan, and build stone pads and drives ready for your builder and concrete crew. Ohio EPA requires a stormwater permit when a project disturbs one acre or more, and Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District is the local office to ask about erosion control. Who does land clearing near Middlefield, Ohio?

Logan Earthworks is an owner-operated land clearing and excavation company based in Trumbull County, next door to Geauga County. Middlefield, Parkman, Huntsburg and Mesopotamia are close to home for us. We clear brush and small trees with a tracked forestry mulcher, take out bigger trees and stumps with an excavator, and do the grading and stone work after. Call (330) 625-5754 and we will come look. The estimate is free.

Can you clear brush in a Middlefield wood lot without cutting the good trees?

Yes. That is one of the things a forestry mulcher does well. You or your forester mark the trees to keep, and the machine works around them, grinding the understory brush, vines and small junk trees. We stay off the root flare and out of wet spots that would rut. What is left is open ground under standing trees, covered in mulch.

Do you dig farm ponds in the Middlefield area?

Yes. We dig ponds and reshape banks with an excavator and a compact track loader. A pond needs the right spot and enough clay to hold water, so the first step is a look at the site and a test hole or two. Rules can apply depending on size, dams, streams and wetlands, so talk to Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District before digging.
