Land Clearing, Mulching & Excavation in Mercer County

Logan Earthworks is based in Farmdale, Ohio, in the township that touches the Mercer County line. Greene and West Salem townships are our next-door neighbors, and Greenville, Sharon and Hermitage are all close to home. The state line does not change the land. It is the same rolling glaciated ground on both sides: dairy and crop farms, woodlots, wet bottoms along the Shenango River, and a lot of pasture that has gone back to thornapple, multiflora rose and autumn olive.

We take that land back with a tracked forestry mulcher. It cuts brush and small trees and mulches them where they stand. The mulch stays down and protects the soil, and nothing gets hauled or burned. For house sites, stumps, ponds and driveways we bring excavators, a dozer and a compact track loader. We have pages for Greenville, Hermitage and Sharon, and a guide to what moves land clearing cost in Ohio and western PA.

Lake country and wet bottoms

Water is close everywhere in this county. Shenango River Lake, a flood control reservoir run by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, backs up north of Sharon and Hermitage, and Pymatuning Creek comes in from Ohio along its west side. Lake Wilhelm fills a long valley at Maurice K. Goddard State Park near Sandy Lake, next to state game land. Ground near these lakes and their feeder streams is low and soft. We schedule that work for dry spells or frozen ground and leave a strip of cover along the water.

Pennsylvania rules are not Ohio rules

If you live on the line, do not assume the Ohio rules apply. Pennsylvania DEP says erosion and sediment controls must be used on any earth disturbance. A written erosion and sediment plan is required once a project disturbs 5,000 square feet, and a permit comes in at one acre. The Mercer County Conservation District, in Mercer, guides residents on those rules and on stream and wetland impacts. State law also has you call 811 at least three business days before digging. Check with those offices first. Mulching brush without digging is the lightest-touch way to clear.

Farm townships and the Shenango Valley

The west side of the county is the side nearest to us. In the Shenango Valley, around Sharon, Farrell, Hermitage, Sharpsville and West Middlesex, the jobs are lots, back acres and commercial ground. North and east of there, in townships like Pymatuning, South Pymatuning, Hempfield, Delaware and Jefferson, it is fence lines, field edges, hunting ground and home sites on long lanes. Farther east, toward Grove City and Sandy Lake, we still come, and we will tell you up front how we would schedule it.

Questions

Mercer County Questions

More answers on our FAQ page and in the guides.

Does an Ohio contractor clear land in Mercer County, PA?

Yes, and we are close. Logan Earthworks is based in Farmdale, Ohio, in the township that borders Mercer County. We work in Greenville, Sharon, Hermitage and the farm townships as part of our home ground. Call (330) 625-5754 for a free estimate.

How much does it cost to clear land in Mercer County, PA?

The price follows the work. Thin brush on dry, level ground is the least. Thick saplings, big trees, stumps that must be dug, wet ground and long hauls for the machine all add to it. Every site here prices out differently. Jeff will walk your land and give you a free estimate.

Do I need a permit to cut down trees or clear land on my property in Mercer County, PA?

Rules vary by borough and township, so call your municipal office. For the dirt side, Pennsylvania DEP requires a written erosion and sediment plan at 5,000 square feet of earth disturbance and a permit at one acre. The Mercer County Conservation District can tell you what applies to your project. That office makes the decision, and we follow the plan.

Can you clear hunting land and trails in Mercer County, PA?

Yes. We cut shooting lanes, open food plot sites, clear trails wide enough for a side-by-side and take back old logging roads with a forestry mulcher. It leaves the mast trees you want standing and does not tear up the soil. Late summer through winter is a good window so the ground is ready before the next season.
