Land Clearing, Mulching & Excavation in Summit County

Summit County is inside our service area. Logan Earthworks is based in Farmdale, in Trumbull County, and we come this way for land clearing, forestry mulching and site work around Akron, Green, Hudson, Stow, Tallmadge and the townships. This is one of the most built-up counties we work in. A typical job here is a single wooded lot, a back acre grown up in honeysuckle and buckthorn, or a commercial parcel that has to be opened for a survey crew and a builder.

We bring a tracked forestry mulcher for brush and small trees and a CAT excavator for the stumps and bigger timber. Jeff looks at each site before he quotes it, because access and neighbors matter as much as the trees do here. We have three pages with more detail: land clearing and excavation in Akron, forestry mulching in Akron and our Akron excavating contractor page.

High ground and steep valleys

Summit County got its name because the highest point on the old Ohio and Erie Canal is here. The Cuyahoga River cuts a deep valley through the north end, where the largest part of Cuyahoga Valley National Park lies. South of Akron, the Portage Lakes are a mix of glacial kettle lakes and canal reservoirs sitting on a watershed divide. So there is slope almost everywhere. On a bank or a ravine edge we mulch and leave the roots in the ground. Stripping a slope bare is how a lot ends up in the neighbor's yard.

Stormwater plans and stream setbacks

This county watches runoff closely. The Summit Soil & Water Conservation District reviews stormwater pollution prevention plans and inspects construction sites under Ohio EPA's permit and Summit County's own code. The district also publishes information on riparian setback areas along streams. If you are clearing for a building, talk to your engineer, your city or township and Summit SWCD before the first tree comes down. Tell us what was approved and where the limits are staked. We clear to the stakes and leave what has to stay.

Lots, back acres and commercial ground

The townships still have room: Bath, Richfield, Copley, Springfield, Coventry. Jobs there are home sites on wooded ground, long driveway cuts, and old fields behind a house that have gone to brush. In Akron, Barberton and Cuyahoga Falls it is more often an empty lot or a strip behind a business. For developers and property managers we handle commercial clearing and right-of-way strips. If your site needs more than what is listed here, tell us about it when you call.

Questions

Summit County Questions

More answers on our FAQ page and in the guides.

Do you travel to Summit County, Ohio for land clearing?

Yes, we work in Summit County. We are based in Farmdale, in Trumbull County, and we come to Akron, Green, Hudson, Stow and the townships for land clearing, forestry mulching and site work. Call (330) 625-5754 and tell Jeff about the job. He will talk it through with you.

Do I need a stormwater plan to clear a lot in Summit County?

You might. Ohio EPA requires construction stormwater permit coverage when a project disturbs one acre or more, and Summit County and its cities have their own rules that can reach smaller sites. Summit Soil & Water Conservation District reviews these plans. Ask them and your local building office before clearing. They make that call, and we follow whatever plan is approved.

Can you clear brush on a ravine or steep bank in Summit County?

Often, yes. A tracked mulcher can work on slopes and it leaves roots and mulch to hold the bank. How steep we can go depends on the footing. Stream banks may fall inside a riparian setback, so check with your city or township and Summit SWCD first. Jeff will look at the slope before giving you a price.

Is forestry mulching worth it for a small lot in Summit County?

It can be. On a half acre of thick honeysuckle and saplings, a mulcher finishes fast and leaves no piles to haul through a neighborhood. The cost of moving the machine is the same for a small job as a big one, though, so it pays to line up all the brush you want gone in one visit. Tell us the size and we will talk it through.
