Land Clearing, Mulching & Excavation in Mahoning County

Mahoning County sits right below us. Logan Earthworks is based one county north, in Farmdale, so Youngstown and the townships around it are close-to-home work for us. The county is split in a way that matters for clearing. The northeast corner is city: Youngstown, Struthers, Campbell and the built-up parts of Boardman and Austintown. West and south of that it opens into farm and woodlot ground in townships like Ellsworth, Berlin, Milton, Green and Beaver. One kind of site needs a careful machine in a tight space. The other needs a machine that can cover acres.

For open acreage and overgrowth we bring a tracked forestry mulcher. It cuts brush, saplings and small trees and turns them into mulch on the spot. For build sites we bring an excavator and a dozer to pull stumps, strip roots and shape the pad. Jeff looks at the site and gives you the estimate. We have town pages for Youngstown, Austintown, Boardman and Canfield if you want detail on your area.

City lots and close neighbors

A vacant lot in Youngstown or Struthers is a different job from a field. The brush is tree of heaven, mulberry, grapevine and whatever grew through the old fence. There may be a buried foundation, a slab or a pile of fill under the weeds. Houses and wires sit a few feet away. We walk these lots before pricing them and we go slow around what we cannot see. Know what used to stand there? Tell Jeff when he walks it, so the plan is set before we start cutting.

Reservoirs, creeks and ground you should ask about

Water shapes a lot of this county. Meander Creek Reservoir, on the Austintown side of the Trumbull line, is the drinking water supply run by the Mahoning Valley Sanitary District. Mill Creek runs through a wooded gorge in Youngstown and Boardman on its way to the Mahoning River, and Lake Milton sits on the west side. If your land drains toward a stream or a lake, ask the Mahoning Soil & Water Conservation District about erosion control before the ground is opened up. Mulching helps here because the roots and the mulch mat stay in place.

Rural townships: fields, fence rows and build sites

Out past Canfield the typical job is land that got away from somebody. A hay field nobody has cut in a long time. A fence row that is now a wall of honeysuckle and briars. A wooded parcel bought for a house and a pole barn. In Ohio, opening up one acre or more for construction needs coverage under Ohio EPA's construction stormwater permit, so tell us early how much ground you plan to disturb. We can clear the house site and the drive, leave the trees you want, and leave it ready for your builder.

Questions

Mahoning County Questions

More answers on our FAQ page and in the guides.

Who clears vacant lots and wooded land in Mahoning County, Ohio?

Logan Earthworks does. We are an owner-operated land clearing and excavation contractor based just north of Mahoning County in Farmdale. We clear vacant city lots, wooded build sites, fence rows and overgrown fields with a forestry mulcher and excavators. Call (330) 625-5754 and Jeff will set a time to look at the property. Estimates are free.

What is the cheapest way to clear land in Mahoning County?

For brush and trees up to small-timber size, forestry mulching is usually the lowest cost way, because one machine does the cutting and the cleanup and nothing is hauled off. It costs more when stumps must be dug out or big trees taken down. The honest way to find out is to have the ground looked at. We do that for free.

Do I need a permit to clear a lot in Mahoning County?

It depends on where the lot is and what comes next. Cities and townships have their own zoning rules. Ohio EPA requires construction stormwater permit coverage when one acre or more is disturbed for a project. Work near a stream may bring in other rules. Call your city or township zoning office and the Mahoning Soil & Water Conservation District before work starts. We can tell you what we have seen, but they make the call.

How long does it take to forestry mulch one acre in Mahoning County?

There is no single answer. An acre of waist-high brush goes fast. An acre of thick saplings, grapevine and four-inch trees on wet clay takes much longer. Slope, rocks, old fence wire and how fine you want the finish all change the pace. Have the ground looked at before anyone gives you a time. Jeff does that for free.
