Clearing, Mulching & Dirt Work in Greenville

The Shenango River runs through Greenville, and the Little Shenango joins it from the east right at town. From the river the ground climbs toward the west edge of the borough, a rise of well over two hundred feet. So property here comes in two kinds: low, flat and wet near the water, or sloped and wooded above it. Logan Earthworks handles both. We are based just across the line in Trumbull County, Ohio, and Mercer County is close to home.

Greenville is a college town, home to Thiel College, with farm and wood country close by in Hempfield and West Salem townships. Logan Earthworks is owner-operated, and Jeff gives you the estimate. For brush and small trees we bring a tracked forestry mulcher, for stumps and digging the CAT excavators, and for shaping the ground a dozer and compact track loader. Estimates are free, and we look at the ground before we give one. Our Mercer County land clearing page covers Hermitage, Sharon and the rest of the county.

River bottom and hillside

Low ground near the Shenango grows brush fast and stays soft, so we time that work for dry or frozen conditions, and we keep dirt and brush away from the river. Ask the borough or your township about floodplain rules before building or filling near the water. Up the hill the worry flips to runoff. A cleared slope needs mulch left on it, a swale to turn water, and pads cut so they drain. Driveways on a grade get a crown and culverts. See grading and land leveling.

Pennsylvania rules are not Ohio rules

We work both states, so we keep the two rulebooks straight. Before digging in Greenville, Pennsylvania One Call wants notice three to ten business days ahead. PennDOT says a driveway project that connects to a state highway needs a permit, and Routes 18, 58 and 358 all come through the borough. Pennsylvania DEP requires a stormwater construction permit for earth disturbance of one acre or more. The Mercer County Conservation District is the local office for erosion and sediment questions. Check with each before work starts. We build to what they approve.

Farm, camp and hunting ground around Greenville

Between Greenville, Jamestown and the Ohio line there is a lot of ground that is part farm, part woods, part hunting camp. A forestry mulcher is the tool for it. It takes fence rows back, reopens old lanes and trails, cuts shooting lanes, and clears around a cabin, all without a brush pile. The mulch stays down and protects the soil. Thick multiflora rose, autumn olive and honeysuckle are no problem for it. Big trees and stumps are excavator work. See forestry mulching.

Questions

Greenville Questions

More answers on our FAQ page and in the guides.

How much does it cost to clear land in Greenville, PA?

Each property is priced on its own. The price follows the work: how thick the brush is, how many large trees and stumps, how steep or wet the ground is, how a machine reaches it, and whether you want it mulched in place or cleared to bare dirt. Jeff looks at the property and gives a free estimate. Our Ohio and western PA cost guide walks through each factor.

Do I need a permit to cut down trees on my property in Greenville, Pennsylvania?

It depends on where the property is and what else you are doing. Boroughs and townships can have their own tree or zoning rules, and work near a stream, a wetland or a state road brings in other offices. Call the Greenville borough office or your township before clearing. For larger jobs, ask the Mercer County Conservation District about erosion control.

Will a contractor from Ohio come to Greenville, PA to clear land?

Yes. Logan Earthworks is based in Trumbull County, Ohio, just across the state line, and Greenville is close to home for us. We work in the borough and in Hempfield and West Salem townships: clearing, mulching, digging, grading, drainage and gravel drives. Pennsylvania's one call and permit rules apply on this side of the line, and we sort those out with you when we look at the job. Call (330) 625-5754.
