Working in Newton Falls

Clearing, Mulching & Dirt Work in Newton Falls

Two branches of the Mahoning River run through Newton Falls, and each one has a waterfall. That is where the village got its name. It sits in the southwest corner of Trumbull County, by the Ohio Turnpike, with Portage County on one side and Mahoning County just to the south. The covered bridge over the river dates to 1831. Outside the village, Newton Township and Braceville are open farm and woodlot country.

We are based in Farmdale, at the opposite corner of the county, and we count Newton Falls as home ground. The work here is a mix. In the village it is older lots that have grown up in brush, yards that need regraded and trees that have become a hazard. In the township it is acreage: field edges, fence rows, building sites and long drives. We run a forestry mulcher, excavators, a dozer and a compact track loader, so we cover all of it.

Village lots and river ground

Lots in an old river town like Newton Falls collect things. Brush, vines, leaning trees, a shed foundation, fill somebody dumped decades back. We clear the growth, grind the stumps and grade what is left so it can be mowed or built on. If your lot is near either branch of the river, ask the village or county floodplain office what is allowed before you add fill or change the grade. Bank brush is better thinned than stripped. Roots are what hold a river bank together. Our land clearing page covers the method.

Township acreage near the arsenal

West of Newton Falls is Camp James A. Garfield, the Ohio National Guard base many people still call the Ravenna Arsenal. Part of it lies in Braceville Township. The private land around it runs to larger parcels of field and timber. We mulch trails and shooting lanes, clear field edges and open up home sites there. If your line backs up to the base fence, have the boundary marked before we start so there is no question where the clearing stops.

Three counties meet here

Newton Township borders Portage County on the west and Milton Township in Mahoning County on the south. From Newton Falls we cross those lines, but the rules can change when you do. Zoning is by village or township. Driveway and culvert permits depend on whose road it is. Soil and water offices are county by county. Tell us exactly where the property is and we will point you to the right office. See our Trumbull County page, or Portage County if you are across the line.

Questions

Newton Falls Questions

More answers on our FAQ page and in the guides.

Do you clear lots and land in Newton Falls, Ohio?

Yes. We clear overgrown village lots and township acreage around Newton Falls, mulch brush and small trees, remove hazard trees, grind stumps and grade the ground afterward. We are based in the same county. Call (330) 625-5754 and Jeff will look at the property and give you a free estimate.

Can I clear brush along the Mahoning River on my Newton Falls property?

Cutting brush is one thing. Digging, filling or regrading near the river is another and may be regulated. Ask the village, the county floodplain office and Trumbull Soil & Water before you do anything to the bank. If clearing is allowed, we thin with a mulcher and leave the roots so the bank holds.

Do you work on both sides of the county line near Newton Falls?

Yes. Newton Falls sits where Trumbull, Portage and Mahoning counties come together, and we work in all three. Braceville, Lordstown, Windham and Lake Milton are all part of the same run for us. Just tell us which township the land is in so we check the right rules before we dig.
